I updated my headshot last week. It was time and I had great fun doing it. However, I don't think many people realise just how important having an up-to-date headshot is. A fantastic photographer Hadonica Murphy (Hadonica's Photography who I was lucky enough to meet this Summer) wrote this brilliant post as to why you should have a current headshot so I wanted to share with you her brilliant words as I couldn't have said it better myself!

THREE REASONS YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR HEADSHOT

In an age of social media, it's more important than ever to have a current and professional headshot. You don't have to be an actor, musician, or entertainer to need a headshot. With the shift from analog to digital, even estate agents, therapists, doctors, etc., will need a headshot. Why? Because people trust people before they invest in a service or business.

A good headshot is a staple in marketing nowadays. Your greatest asset, after all, is you.

HERE ARE THREE REASONS TO UPDATE YOUR HEADSHOT:

You want to be taken seriously.

A current headshot shows that you're professional and invested in your career. An updated headshot and its quality reflect you and the quality of service you are providing. This reason is why the selfie headshots need to go!

When you're with a professional photographer, you get the advantage of relying on their lighting, equipment, wardrobe, and experience to translate your targeted look into a visual masterpiece. A good photographer will direct and guide you until that perfect shot is captured.

Your headshot is your first impression to the world.

Make sure it's a good one! In a 2016 study, it's been shown that people can form lasting opinions based on your photo.

Whether you're using this on all of your social media profiles, website, or portfolio, you'll want people to develop an accurate sense of who you are. If your photo is outdated and misrepresents you, people might have expectations that don't align what how great you currently are!

You want to be remembered.

A great headshot will help you stand out from the crowd. The point isn't to flash your pearly whites, wear a blazer, and call it a day. Curate the outfit that suits your profession but also displays your personality. Know your best angle/s and sell that you are the perfect candidate. This level of thought and preparation separates “meh” headshots from memorable headshots.

It's never too late to get a photo of yourself that you're proud of for online netizens or recruiters to look at. How do we combat living in a world where books are judged for their cover? By ensuring the cover tells as much of our story as possible. So with that said, how can I help you tell your story?

As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help.
