equestrian portraiture

I had a gorgeous reveal with Zoey last week to show her pictures of her with her scrummy boy Rufus.

We had so much fun creating these and they are all taken outside with natural light at sunset at the stables he is at in Wyndmondham. I drove out to meet them there, which was lovely - I love to get out in the fresh air!

It was important to get one of him on his own so we placed him in the archway opening to the stable block - known by photographers as a form of Open Shade. This was so he wasn't in direct sunlight and then the background came out much darker as I exposed for Rufus. A bit of an edit afterwards gave this gorgeous portrait that is both soft and strong aswell as showing his wonderful personality. Also look at this gorgeous eyelashes!!

It’s also really important to treat white horses carefully as a lot of other colours can shine onto their coats, such as green grass. I made sure to remove these reflections colour but keep his natural soft colouring on his nose and in his shadows. We don’t want him looking like a white ghost. :)

Zoey and Rufus also have such a gorgeous connection so I really wanted to show that back to her in all her images with him. We headed to a field he knows with the sunsetting behind them and got him to bend down to interact with Zoey. This meant he was really relaxed and could focus on just her. Look at their connection. I love it!

In both these images he was wearing a photography halter, but with a little edit, have removed it so that your focus goes directly to him.

I'm so lucky that I'm actually going back to take some pictures of Raffia Zoey's new horse very soon! Can't wait!

As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help! If you’d like to see some of my other For Pets portrait imagery then please head here.
