headshots with a twist

Headshots put into a group setting as a mixed tile table for eg Law, Norwich. Taken by Headshot Photographer Claire Howes, Atelier Creative.

I had the pleasure of taking headshots for the whole team at EG Law. It was such a lovely day, they are all so nice, lively and knowledgable at what they do it was lovely to get to know them better and see how they work.

Now, knowing this team better I can completely see why they wanted something a bit different when it came to their company headshots. They didn't want anything traditional but bright and friendly, which is definitely what I experienced when I visited them.

When planning headshots for companies, I always offer two different set-ups for imagery. That usually means a different background colour, crop whether full body or head and shoulders and posing. This allows the images to work in a variety of different scenarios and can suit a multitude of different places such as website, email signatures, business cards, speaker imagery, press articles and many more. With EG Law, they even decided to write a phrase personal to them on the felt board and I added all the colour in post-production.

Well, why not shoot on colourful backdrops if you know you are turning everything bright colours afterwards? Well, the main reason is most definitely colour casts. When bright lights flash, they reflect the colour of any object and bounce it around with the light so a person photographed on a bright blue backdrop would have a blue tint to some areas of their hair and skin! It is fixable but it's easier to change the colour of one grey backdrop afterwards than fix all the images afterwards. And also, for practicality purposes. Spaces are often tight for taking headshots and I don't think anyone would appreciate me turning up with 14 different colour backdrop roles! Lastly, if someone doesn't like the colour then, no problem, we can change it and even match your brand colours.

What do you think? Are your headshots more traditional? Do you like the stand out nature of a bit of colour?

Thanks eg.law for being so welcoming!
