headshots & adapting
Last Friday, I took headshots of everyone at BNI City of Norwich before the meeting started, which I am a member of and love!
I decided to take two strobes, two modifiers (a parabolic umbrella and a stripbox for those so inclined) and get some lovely studio lit portraits for everyone to use everywhere - it's so important to have a great headshot! Did you know that having a professional headshot on your LinkedIn profile alone gets you 14 times more views?! That is business you could be passing up without one!
I set up and was ready for everyone, but then reapplied my trigger (to trigger the lights) was in my studio... poop!
Very quickly I adapted. That's what photographers do, that's why we train and learn how to make sure you get the job done.
I move the backdrop outside as the sun was just coming up, avoiding harsh pools of light on the face. With it being sunrise, I initially placed the subject towards the sun, but as it got up higher we moved into open shade.
Best tip ever is to find open shade, such as in the shadow of a tree, so you get good light on your subject but it's not harsh and overhead creating massive bags under eyes and caves for eye sockets! Even better, if you have a reflector, or even just a piece of light coloured fabric, you can use that as a barrier between you and the sun to get a beautiful diffused look.
I'm very pleased with how these turned out, even though we had to adapt last minute. I think they look professional, clean and both subjects look approachable - so important when it comes to a headshot!
Do you need your headshot updating? I'm mobile with my headshot work and can come to you, no problem at all.
Do you like them? Would you have done anything differently?
