connection

Mother & son rubbing noses in the studio. Taken by Norwich Portrait Photographer Claire Howes, Atelier Creative.

Recently, I had the pleasure of creating a bespoke portrait session for this Mother and Son. I love this sessions. They are chaotic to say the least but you also get these beautiful tender moments that only a Mum could share with their child.

The trick to these sessions is to keep the children engaged. We play games, say silly things, give them little directions and even show the little ones how to take a picture of their Mummy. I'm always so tired afterwards, but the rewards far out weight that!!

I, myself, am making a conscious effort to exist in photos with my daughters now. When I look back, I was so concerned with my baby weight being on show and the bags under my eyes being visible but I wish somebody had told me that really doesn't matter. My girls don't see that, they just see a beautiful image of them with their Mum. A connection, a bond, a moment a parent has with their offspring.

If there is one thing you should do its get in front of the camera with your child. That image will me more to you (and the) than anything and for the rest of your lives you will be so pleased that you have it.

Are you showing up in imagery for your children?

As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help! Also, follow #ateliercreative for more hints & tips about portrait photography.
