creating a custom canvas backdrop

I love to create custom backdrops and whenever I have time I like to add a new one to my studio stock. This gives my clients more choice for the bespoke portrait sessions and also allows me to photograph them on a one-of-a-kind backdrop that no one else has for that personal touch.

This one I created two weeks ago and below are just three of the portrait sessions I have use it for - two signature portrait sessions (one as maternity) and a menagerie session. As you can see, with the right lighting, styling and subject you can create very different looks using the same backdrop.

Want to know how I did it? It was actually using normal emulsion paint! Nothing fancy! If you want to know more, I am currently writing an article to feature in Togtalk magazine all about my process to create these. Please message me for more details.

A backdrop like this can be so versatile and elevates your portrait images giving a timeless quality when hanging on your walls.

Do you like custom backdrops? What colour would you like created for your own portrait session?

As always, please message me any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help! Also, follow #ateliercreative for more hints & tips about portrait photography.
