a portrait fit for a queen

Queens Jubilee portrait by Ranald Mackechnie

The 70th Platinum Jubilee celebrations are upon us and last night the Palace released the Queens new portrait by Ranald Mackechnie is celebration.

It's beautiful, captures her with maybe an expression we don't see so much and what a great view out of the window of Windsor Castle.

A portrait should capture who you are in the light you want to be seen in. The more I look at this, the more I see her. She's in her own surroundings, dressed as you would expect to see her, very relaxed facial expression. You see a human. A grandmother sitting at home. It just so happens that her home is a castle! But it make her personable.

Why does the Queen get a portrait? Well, people what to remember and document her life to have as special moments for years to come after she is gone. Well then, why don't we do the same thing? We forever put it off saying 'I want to loose X amount of weight', 'I can't afford it right now', 'I'm not photogenic'. It's bonkers to me! You are never as young as you are now, for a start, and this moment you will never get back. It's a snapshot in time that's so fleeting it will be gone before you know it. As to the weight, I can pose like no one else and make those pounds disappear, if that's what you want.

Don't look back and regret not existing. Make sure you show up for you, your family and your loved ones. Take time for yourself and feel empowered in front of the camera with a portrait. It sounds crazy, but a portrait session is almost like therapy. I have women come in shy, timid and nervous and by the end of the session they feel 10 inches taller, happy, more confident and so pleased that they took the time out for them.

Do you like the Queens latest portrait? Would you have done it differently?

Happily Jubilee Ma'am.
