throwing fabric

If you want more information about our Portrait Sessions, please click here.

I love movement in imagery. It's something I've only recently realised that I'm drawn to. Something as simple as getting someone to 'throw' a piece of fabric whilst you take the shot gives so much life to an image and if the lighting is just right, it captures the folds and bends in it beautifully.

If throwing fabric is images, it requires a steady hand holding the camera to get the still bits super sharp, but having the camera on a slow shutter speed gets that soft motion blur to the fabric. I aim for somewhere between 1/15 and 1/80 with my shutter speed and then I sometimes even hold my breath to get no movement on the rest, or set-up my tripod if I have one!

This gorgeous image was created using constant light and window. Do you like it? Would you have done anything differently? Would you want to throw fabric if you were having yourself photographed?

As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help!
