soul

Portrait of a woman throwing fabric on a beige background. Taken in studio by Norwich Portrait Photographer Claire Howes, Atelier Creative.

I love to capture a truly 'perfect' image. But is an image being technically 'perfect' better than one that has soul?

I recently went to this amazing workshop hosted by Graphistudio (who produce all of my products - in a castle no less!) where we talked a lot about putting soul into your images. Making sure that you connect with the client and really have their emotion oozing out of every pore and moving the person viewing it.

Looking back through some of these images, I came across this picture of Irene and I personally love it! Some of her is slightly blurry because of the moving fabric and her top has risen up a bit BUT look at that face!!! Her smile is electric and her body shape and positioning I love so much so I'm OK with a blurry hand. In fact, some of my most favourite images are sometimes a little blurry - I like to play with motion blur. This is because they often have the most soul in them. Emotion. Connection with the audience. Even though Irene isn't looking at you, you are drawn into the image, her infectious smile, the mood and it lifts my spirits.

Do you like a bit of soul in your image? Does the blur bother you? What do you think?

As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help! And please visit our galleries to see how we can photograph you.
