sometimes its all about play

I was lucky enough to photograph the beautiful Estelle recently. She's an actress so wears many hats so we created her portrait session to show off her many skills and facets. It was so much fun!

This image was taken playing with a simple feather choker and it's taken on an old Hollywood vibe in the edit because offer classic posing, expression and face shape. We had a feel determined for this but weren't sure the direction it was going to take so we brainstormed and had a play in the studio. It's important to have the time to do this to capture subjects at their most comfortable and representative of themselves.

To create something this simple a lot goes into it to make it 100% perfect. We used five lights for this set-up, but the beauty is in making sure they balance and none of them overpowers the other ones.

Coming into the session, I always recommend neutral nails so that nail varnish doesn't date your images. Estelle has turned up with mint green ones. Not a problem! Bit of care and attention and I changed her nail colour to match the image and not take away from her gorgeous expression.
