your legacy is important

I don't normally post images before they have been edited, but I thought this was so important that I couldn't not share it and it's sentiment.

This week I was lucky enough to photograph my mother-in-law Sue for the 40/40 Project. I didn't ask her to join, she asked me and I was bowled over to think that she had that much faith in me to let me photographer her. It really is touching when someone puts their trust in you to take their portrait and I'm always honoured.

We shot four of her looks in the studio, but decided to head to the beach for her fifth because it really means so much to her and we had a glorious time. She will be 70 next year, but that didn't stop her running along the sand, skipping through the waves and even laying down so I could capture some beautiful images of her.

I love this image. It truly sums her up perfectly and so I had to give her a sneak peak of it before it had an edit. She thought it was lovely but the true impact came when I showed my Husband and Sister in Law, her children. They both love it.

Sometimes the image is not just about creating it for you, but also your children. I would love to have portraits of my family, my legacy, to be able to share with my girls and they share with any family they choose to have. To have imagery that sums up those closest to us is one of the most precious things people own and I'm so privilege that I get to create them.

Being a photographer really is an honour. Thank you for letting me photograph you Sue. x
