YOUR BODY IS ART

A portrait of olympic athletes that are all shapes and sizes.

I spend a lot of my time hearing 'I just want to loose a few pounds first' or 'Please don't photograph this part of me' because we all have our insecurities and body hang ups. We are conditioned from a young age to have an 'ideal' when it comes to our own bodies and so subconsciously we put ourselves down when we are not striving for and reaching that. We speak to ourselves worse than we would ever speak to anyone. We really can be awful and very negative when addressing our own bodies and IT HAS TO STOP.

I wanted to share with you these images taken by Howard Schatz in 2002. He really wanted to show the diversity within sport of bodies. Bodies that are in prime physical fitness to serve the role they wanted to fill. They are all different, very different. There is no such thing as the 'perfect body' and these athletes are at the top of their game, competing to be the best in the world.

I've spent the past two weeks immersed in all things Olympics and can't wait to do the same with the Para Olympics. These athletes push themselves to obtain their dream goal of winning a medal and being the best in the world. They dedicate everything to their pursuit of greatness and THEY ALL LOOK COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. THERE IS NO PERFECT BODY.

So whether you look like Emily Campbell, Simone Biles or Helen Glover be proud of your body. It got you to where you are today. It allowed you to breathe, move, think, feel and love. We are but human and all bodies deserve to be loved. ❤️
