This is a question I get asked a lot of the time, so I have a prepared style guide and make-up guide I send to my clients after we have had our pre-shoot consultation and before the actual shoot.

There's lots that you can do to prepare both physically, but most importantly, mentally so that you get the best out of your session. I always advise having a think and setting your intention for your shoot - how you want to be seen, what you want to get out of your session. Some people even write a little diary entries before heir shoot when thoughts pop into their head. It's totally up to you, but if you share it with your photographer they can really hone in on how you want to be photographed and make sure your images say exactly what you want them to.

From a physical side, some of the little things are the best. Make sure you clean any jewellery you want to wear - sparkly wedding rings instead of grubby ones are best! Also, one thing forgotten about a lot of the time are nails. Make sure your nails are clean and if you are going to have them painted, get them done in a soft, neutral colour. Neutrals won't age and will stay classic and timeless for years to come.

Make sure in the 24 hours up to your shoot you take care of yourself. Get lots of sleep, have a good breakfast and drink lots of water.

Your portrait session is all about celebrating you so give yourself the time and attention you deserve.
