colour or black & white?
I took this image of Sarah whilst I was in Italy. We were shooting at the foot of the Dolomites in a castle of all places, thanks to Graphistudio and their fabulous training facility.
There were some amazing opportunities to photograph within the grounds and get some epic shots with incredible backgrounds and settings, but equally, sometimes a close up is call for without all the distraction. Where it is just you, your subject and the camera.
This look channels all the 80s vibes for me and I really felt that when I captured it with just a single light and a v-flat to bounce back the light onto her and fill in her shadows. I was inspired by that feel when it came to retouching and colour grading the image and also I was selecting a very 80s playlist for my client that I had in the studio the next day.
However, now they are edited I just can't decided which one I prefer more - the colour or black and white. Is there one that speaks to you? I think it's totally dependant on where the image is going, what the decor of the room is like and what the client prefers so I like to show both options to them.
It’s always good to produce clients portraits in both colour and black & white so they have the choice.
Which one would be your favourite? Or do you like them both equally?
As always, please message me with any questions or just to say hi! I'm always here to help!
